A volcano in the southern Caribbean erupted early Friday April 9, 2021, spewing a two-mile-high cloud of ash into the sky one day after thousands were ordered to evacuate the area. The long-dormant volcano, known as La Soufrière, on the main island of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, moved into an "explosive state" Friday morning, sending plumes up to "eight kilometers," the National Emergency Management Organization shared on Twitter. This fund is created to support the recovery effort in SVG via registered Charites.

John and Shawn Dickson lost their precious and vibrant daughter Kiersten to lung cancer. Treated by the compassionate doctors and staff at the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center, Kiersten's parents teamed up with the Olde Blind Dog Cycling Club, to create this event. Funds raised benefit research to help the fight against childhood cancer. The goal of the Bay Area Community Impact Grants is to invest in nonprofit partners who are working towards closing the education achievement gap for low-income K-5 students in the Bay Area, with a focus in STEM subjects. With the help of Cisco's funding, Partners in School Innovation is supporting Dr. Charles R. Drew Elementary School in the facilitation and implementation of a new math curriculum (Eureka Math) in order to impact and improve math teaching and learning to underserved students.

STEM exposure and Certification enablement. Nigerian Young Adults Headstart: Close the employment Gap through Cisco Certification for the young adults. Connect and Elevate reaches across the ocean to develop and train Nigerian youth with Cisco CCNA and AWS technical skills to certify the young adult. The goal is to help close the unemployment gap. Bloomberg Economic Article statistics states that 53.4% of Nigerian adults from the age of 20-34 are unemployed. This unemployment rate is partly due to the lack of certification, such as the sought-after Cisco technical skills required by employers in enterprises, the financial sector, and service providers. This Campaign will enable Connect and Elevate to train 50 of these students and provide the top 20 young adults who attend the 2 weeks bootcamp with paid CCNA vouchers/scholarships to take the CCNA examination. Connect and Elevate STEAM Exposure Workshops: According to the National Math and Science Initiative, "60% of the new jobs that will open in the 21st century will require skills possessed by only 20% of the current workforce." Connect and Elevate prepares tomorrow's leaders today with problem-based learning and hands-on activities that ignite the passion for STEM. This Campaign will enable Connect and Elevate to provide 50 youth ages 13-18 years old with a FUN-FILLED days of hands on exploration, collaboration, problem solving, critical thinking, ideation and innovation. Each participant will gain the following: • Learn while doing build over 511 different electronics projects such as digital voice recorder, AM/FM radio, AC generator, screaming fan, whistle switch and much more! • Provides opportunity to teach children creativity and mechanical principles. The robotics kit teaches the value of recycling by re-purposing a used soda can into a moving, functional robot. • Encourage young Eco-engineers to explore alternate energy sources through basic mechanical concepts, Delve into STEM concepts and learn how to convert sunlight into energy to power a moving car. I am a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) volunteer for Utah County. Children need you. Show them there are good people in the world. The Mission of CASA is: Our Mission is to preserve and strengthen families whenever possible, and when it is not, to achieve permanency for children in a timely manner. We work collaboratively to meet children’s needs for safety, stability, nurturance and love. Our advocates strive to represent children with proficiency and diligence. We are accountable, ethical and professional as individuals and as a system. I have seen the invaluable impact that the CASA organization has on children who are at rock bottom. In 2008 – my junior year of college, I was diagnosed with a brain tumor and had a craniotomy to remove the benign growth. In 2012 during a routine checkup I was told the tumor had returned and required me to undergo another brain surgery. My second surgery was performed at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center. Roswell Park is recognized as a premier comprehensive care center in America and strives to achieve excellence not only in patient treatment and care but also in clinical programs and research. The doctors, nurses, and staff were all exceptional at helping my family and me through this stressful and difficult time. Since my successful recovery, I have searched for a way to help support Roswell Park in furthering their research to find a cure for brain cancer and to bring more awareness and education regarding brain tumors. Buffalo Goes Gray was subsequently formed as a non-profit charitable organization whose purpose is to raise funds to bring awareness of brain tumors and further research for brain cancer treatment at Roswell Park. With the help of the generous sponsors and donations that we receive each year, we have been able to donate over $150,000 to Roswell Park. Since the inaugural event in 2014, the money raised goes to Roswell Park and in particular the SurVax M Vaccine. The SurVax M vaccine is a unique vaccine being studied as a treatment for glioblastoma at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.

When I lived in Utah, one of my dear friends, Andy Bailey, was diagnosed with Burkitt's Lymphoma Leukemia six days after his son was born. I am thrilled to say that 10+ years later (after numerous treatments), he is cancer free! Since his diagnosis and remission, Andy has dedicated himself to helping others that find themselves in similar positions, specifically after they finish treatment where bills are high and the ability to work is sometimes limited. The Working Patient Program is a program Andy is helping to bring to life for this community. It would create a group of employers that can provide the type of work and flexibility that patients and families going through cancer can perform when able. Every year between November 13th - 19th, the week before Transgender Day of Remembrance on November 20th, people and organizations around the world participate in Transgender Awareness Week to help increase visibility about the Trans experience, celebrate triumphs and address hardships members of the community face. Transgender Day of Remembrance is an annual observance that honors the memory of the Trans people whose lives were lost in acts of anti-Transgender violence. Devastatingly, 2021 marks the deadliest year recorded with at least 46 Transgender people killed in the US alone. This week and every week, we need to work together to advance advocacy against the prejudice, discrimination, and violence affecting the Trans community. This is also a time to celebrate Trans joy, resilience, and victories, to pause to honor the history of Trans activism and welcome informed allies. Through the Global Impact Grant (GIG) Program, Cisco helps emerging non-profit organizations apply digital technology solutions to have the broadest impact in some of the most economically underserved parts of the world. This is a set of strategic partners which Cisco and Cisco Foundation support with cash grants, donations of technology, and capacity building consultations. When you contribute to this fund, you are investing in solutions that have significant positive impact on students in the region. Included in this fund are five current nonprofit partners that focus on K-8 science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) programs with reach in the APJC region that demonstrate the following: • Evidence based student learning • Reaching students inclusively • Positive changes in student behaviors • Persistence in STEM pathway towards a STEM career Note on Tax Deductibility: This fund includes U.S.- based organizations. Virtual learning is a privilege and we at Make A Difference would want to give this privilege to the disadvantaged children at the shelter homes. By spending almost 2 years at Make A Difference, I have understood the power of the collective. On March 24th, 2021, a terrible fire broke out at one of the densely populated slum communities in Freetown, Sierra Leone, Susan's Bay. The entire community was burnt down to ashes and it is believed that more than 5,000 people were left homeless as over 600 houses were destroyed. Many children are believed to be missing and separated from their parents while thousands have lost their livelihoods as most of the residents in the affected community were involved in petty trading. Advocacy Initiative for Development (AID) Sierra Leone will be providing food, water, medicine, clothing, school supplies, and accommodation in helping the victims especially women and children rise from the ashes. Also, the organization will be providing psychosocial counseling support to affected women and children to enable them recover from the trauma and also keep their hopes alive.
